Why Practice on Live Models Matters
Mannequins teach theory. Real skin teaches the craft. Here is why live-model practice sits at the heart of training at Chetana's Beauty Academy.
Real skin behaves differently
No two faces are the same. Skin varies in texture, oiliness, sensitivity and undertone. A technique that works perfectly on a mannequin can look patchy on real skin if you have not learned to adapt.
Live-model practice teaches you to read skin and adjust your approach in the moment, which is what real client work demands.
You learn to handle real conditions
Real clients move, talk, blink and feel discomfort. They come with different face shapes, hair types and expectations. Practising on real people under supervision builds the confidence to handle all of this calmly.
It also teaches hygiene, communication and client comfort, which are just as important as the technical skill.
Feedback that sticks
When a trainer corrects you on a live model, the lesson stays with you. You see the result of your work immediately and learn what to fix before it becomes a habit.
This kind of direct, hands-on correction is hard to replicate with mannequins or videos alone.
What to look for in training
Ask how much of a course is spent on live models versus theory or demonstration. Training that prioritises live-model practice will prepare you to work with real clients from day one, not just pass an exam.
